Dr. Claude Bélanger, M. Psych., Ph.D., Psychologist

Dr. Claude Bélanger is a clinical psychologist with thirty years experience. He is also a full professor in the psychology department at the Université du Québec à Montréal, assistant professor in the psychiatry department at McGill University, and a researcher at the Douglas Hospital Research Center. Dr. Bélanger has a compelling interest in the clinical difficulties associated with evaluation and cognitive-behavioural intervention in adults. He is recognized for his expertise in the treatment of anxiety and affective disorders and in behavioural medicine. He has vast experience in the behavioural treatment of these problems and he has led many research studies focused on the development of effective strategic interventions for these conditions. Dr. Bélanger has published and disseminated his research results in more than one hundred thirty scientific publications, books and conferences.

Dr. Bélanger coordinates and supervises the comprehensive clinical evaluations and the rehabilitation programs for our patients presenting complex disability profiles. His expertise with these kinds of problems makes him a superb source of information and contact for Matrix’s clients. Dr. Bélanger is thus responsible for the establishment of functional links between Matrix and personnel at the employer and/or insurer, as well as caregivers and physicians involved in the patient’s treatment.


 


Dr. Johanne Martial, M.D., M.Sc., CSPQ, FRCP(C)

Psychiatrist

Dr. Johanne Martial completed her MD at Université de Montréal and her specialization in psychiatry at McGill University. She also holds a masters degree in neuroscience from Université de Montréal, awarded in 1991. Today, Dr. Martial works primarily with anxiodepressive disorders. She is currently the Medical Chief of the Personality Disorders program at the Douglas Institute in Verdun. In addition, Dr. Martial is an assistant professor in the psychiatry department of McGill Faculty of Medicine. Her research interests include the evaluation of treatments for personality and mood disorders, and serotonin receptor physiology.

Dr. Martial has held several prominent positions, including Chief of the Psychiatry Department at the Douglas Institute from 1997 to 2001. She was the acting Medical Chief at the Douglas Institute. Dr. Martial chaired the committee for directors of psychiatry departments. She was a member of several special committees within the Association des médecins psychiatres du Québec (AMPQ) and currently represents the AMPQ at the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec. The clinical team and clients at Matrix Rehabilitation Services will greatly benefit from Dr. Martial’s clinical expertise and extensive experience in treatment planning for mental health services.


 



Dr. Mark Hazeltine, M.D., CSPQ, FRCP(C), FACP

Internist-Rheumatologist

Dr. Mark Hazeltine, an internist and rheumatologist, is Director of the Centre de Rhumatologie de Laval, and is responsible for clinical training at the Université de Montréal. He is the author of many articles on medical training as well as of the Rheumatology Practice Guide. Dr. Hazeltine was head of the rheumatology department at Saint-Luc Hospital and at Cité de la Santé de Laval, as well as chief of the department of medicine at the latter.

Dr. Hazeltine regularly gives conferences to general practitioners on different subjects, including fibromyalgia. For more than ten years, he has conducted medical evaluations of patients who are on disability with conditions related to internal medicine and rheumatology. Dr. Hazeltine continues an active medical practice in Laval and brings his vast medical expertise with chronic disability patients to the Matrix team. Dr. Hazeltine is responsible for the medical evaluation of Matrix patients, and he coordinates any medical interventions recommended.
